Wasps take Anglo Welsh LV= Cup to Abu Dhabi

London Wasps confirmed that their Anglo Welsh LV= Cup clash with Harlequins on Sunday 30th January 2011 will be staged in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The game between the two London giants is the first UK domestic competitive rugby fixture to be played overseas and the ground-breaking move has received the support of the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup tournament organisers, the Rugby Football Union, title sponsors LV=, Premiership Rugby, Sky Sports, the International Rugby Board and opponents Harlequins.

This unique opportunity to take the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup tournament global follows a visit to the region by Club Owner Steve Hayes and Board Director Lawrence Dallaglio late last year.

The Wasps pair journeyed to Abu Dhabi as part of their ongoing efforts to research stadium development whilst the club continues to pursue their ambitions for a new long term home for London Wasps.

The game has received the backing of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and the United Arab Emirates Rugby Association who are eager to promote rugby in the United Arab Emirates.

Both Wasps and Harlequins are equally committed to raising awareness of the sport, both home and abroad, and will be engaging with local schools and rugby clubs in the region in the build up to the game.
