Sale Sharks vs Gloucester Rugby called off

The Aviva Premiership Rugby round ten match between Sale Sharks and Gloucester Rugby at Edgeley Park, scheduled to kick off at 7.45pm on Friday 3rd December 2010 has been postponed.

Pitch protection systems have been in place since the early part of the week and the pitch is playable. However, significant amounts of snow in the spectator areas is proving difficult to clear and the surrounding roads and car parks are also affected.

Phil Winstanley, Rugby Director at Premiership Rugby said, “The pitch protection system has worked very well at Edgeley Park and the pitch is in great condition.

“However, the surrounding areas are a problem and with more snow forecast this evening, the likelihood of the match going ahead was very slight.

“Travel in the area is not easy, so we have taken the decision to postpone the match and save a wasted trip for supporters, players and Sky Sports who were due to televise the match live.”

The situation at the remaining four matches will be constantly assessed.

A revised date for the Sale Sharks versus Gloucester Rugby match and the Newcastle Falcons versus Bath Rugby match, postponed yesterday, will be announced as soon as possible.
