Donnelly sticks with Otago

Otago and Highlanders lock Tom Donnelly has renewed his contract with the Otago Rugby Football Union (OTRU), the union’s chief executive, Russell Gray, said on Thursday.

Donnelly had re-signed with Otago for a further two years.

Donnelly, 26, is now back to full fitness after shoulder surgery during the summer and played in a scratch game at Carisbrook last week, along with reconditioned teammates Anton Oliver and Carl Hayman.

Under the rules of the Super 14, he can’t be added to the Highlanders squad unless he replaces an injured player.

“We think it’s great that Tom has recommitted himself to Otago and Highlanders rugby,” Gray said. “He’s an asset to us and to New Zealand rugby.”

Donnelly played for the Junior All Blacks last year.
