Samoa unchanged for England

Samoa have named an unchanged team that 20-10 lost to Ireland last wekend for this weekend’s match against England at Twickenham on Saturday.

There are seven Aviva Premiership-based players including the London Irish pair Seilala Mapasua and George Stowers and Leicester Tigers wing Alesana Tuilagi.

Samoa will be captained by former Sale hooker Mahonri Schwalger who has played against England in the last two World Cups

Schwalger said: “We’ve been working hard the last couple of weeks, and the coach has been stressing the importance of the set-piece if we are going to compete against the top teams.

“The last few times against England we’ve always let it slip in the last 15 minutes, so I’ve stressed to my boys it’s all about discipline – if we’re going to win the game we’ve got to have 15 players on the field.

“With about 15 minutes to go in 2003 we were still leading but our discipline let us down, and in all the years we’ve played against England we’ve competed against them until someone’s got a yellow card. It’s all about getting the mentality right.

“In the last 10 years there has been a perception about the way we tackle, and it’s cost us games, but referees need to look at that. If you look at it properly, we just like tackling hard, but we’re trying to control the aggression.”

And Schwalger added: “Especially with the World Cup next year, this tour is really important for us.

“The potential of this side is huge – what we need to do now is tweak the little things and we’ll come right. You’ll find out on Saturday what those little things are.

“England are one of the teams you measure yourself against as a player. The coach has been stressing to the boys that this England team is not going to come round twice, so grab the opportunity with two hands and make sure you win.

“We gave Ireland a scare and we felt like we could have won the game. We’ll take that frustration into the game with England.” he told the BBC.

“I’d compare it with the side that played in the World Cup in 1991. Watching that as kids gave us the passion to play for Samoa.”
