Briggs takes over Sale Sharks captaincy

Sale Sharks’ Head Coach Mike Brewer has announced that Neil Briggs will be the club’s interim captain for the remainder of the rugby season.

Regular captain James Gaskell sustained an ankle ligament injury in training and is not expected back until around February.

“Gaskell will be out for 14 to 16 weeks or so, then he’s got to concentrate on regaining fitness and have game time. Briggsy’s going to look after the squad as captain for the rest of the season,” Brewer explained.

“James will captain the side if Briggsy’s ‘on downtime’ having a week off. James will then take over again next season.”
