Hodgson expects tough Premiership comeback

England fly-half Charlie Hodgson is expecting a tough return to action when he lines up for Sale in their Premiership match at home to Wasps at Edgeley Park on Friday.

The stand-off will be making his first appearance of the season following shoulder surgery and Hodgson, a fans’ favourite at north-west side Sale, said: “It will be tough. I feel a bit rusty but I’ve done a lot of training.

“I’m trying to get used to it as much as possible, but there’s no substitute for match fitness and practice.

“There’s only a certain amount of fitness and rehab you can do and obviously that will continue, but it’s nice to be back on the field.

“I’m sure there’s going to be issues in the game, but hopefully I can overcome them and get through them as soon as possible,” Hodgson added.

“I’ve just got to enjoy myself.”

Wasps coach Tony Hanks wants more from his side who, unusually, sit third from bottom in the Premiership table, after a 22-20 loss away to Gloucester.

“We were disappointed not to win last weekend and need to ensure we put things right tomorrow (Friday),” he said.
