Boland desperate for Currie Cup win

The Boland Kavaliers are at the crossroads after a rather promising start to the Currie Cup rugby season.

With their back against the wall, a victory against the Griffons at Welkom on Saturday is not negotiable for Loffie Eloff’s outfit.

Eloff is confident his charges can turn their season around despite the Griffons’ excellent home record.

Boland, however, will have to play without their former Springbok flanker Hilton Lobberts. He was ruled out with injury.

There is talent aplenty in the Boland side. Fullback Jacquin Jansen, winger Cornal Hendricks and flyhalf Willie le Roux are enjoying an outstanding season, while experienced lock Hottie Louw, flanker Braam Immelman and loosehead prop Janro van Niekerk are all capable of competing with the very best.

The Boland team is:

Jacquin Jansen, Cornal Hendricks, PJ Vermeulen, Dewey Swartbooi, Jeremy Plaatjies, Willie le Roux, Bolla Conradie (capt), Zandré Jordaan, Braam Immelman, Franzel September, Hottie Louw, Grant le Roux, Eusebio Gainazu, Clemen Lewis, Janro van Niekerk.

Replacements: Ashton Constant, Charl du Plessis, Rod Labuschagné, Thor Halvorsen, Neil Papier, Brandon April, Lionel Cornelius.
