Ormsby re-signs with Sale Sharks for two years

Sale Sharks’ rebuilding plans for next season have received another boost with the news that Kiwi forward Kristian Ormsby has signed a new two year deal with the club.

The versatile forward has been at Edgeley Park since 2008, having joined Sale from Super 14s side the Chiefs.
But after a superb start to his Sharks career, Ormsby’s progress was derailed by a serious knee injury which kept him out of action for the best part of a year.

However, the man known as ‘Whispers’ bounced back in fine style towards the end of last season and emerged as one of the Sharks’ most consistent performers, scoring a number of tries.

For his part, the former Maori international whose wife and family are happily settled in Manchester, revealed his relief at having secured his long-term future with Sale.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sale Sharks and am delighted to have signed the new deal.

“Obviously, it was very disappointing to get injured so soon after my arrival and the injury took longer than we expected to heal.
“But I was delighted to rejoin the Sale pack towards the end of the last season and am very much looking forward to the future with the club.

“Like everyone, I am excited by all the new signings we have made and am looking forward to working with new head coach Mike Brewer.

“Now I just want to play my part in trying to bring success to the club both in the new season and beyond.”

Fellow Kiwi Brewer had been equally keen to retain the services of the powerful forward.

And he expressed his own delight that another key component in the club’s plans had been rubber-stamped.

“Kristian is a great player and has a big influence on the players around him,” said Brewer.

“I am delighted he has decided to stay with us and I know from speaking to supporters that they will be thrilled by the news.”
