Province expect tough Lions Currie Cup clash

Western Province coach Alistair Coetzee has told his team to expect a much improved Lions team at Newlands in their Currie Cup clash.

Coetzee has named an unchanged side after they beat the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last weekend but appealed for them to put in an improved performance this weekend.

“It was noticeable at the weekend that the Lions (in their match against the Leopards) have improved in all facets of the game,” Coetzee told Sport24.

“What we need to do now is to continue improving so that we can face up to the challenge that the Lions will pose on Saturday. “After the Bloemfontein victory we need to step our levels and this should be the case as the season winds on.”

The Lions are currently coach by the highly accomplished John Mitchell of the Force in the Super 14 and he has made it clear that the log leaders will not be push overs.

Western Province team:

Conrad Jantjes, Fabian Juries, Tim Whitehead, Paul Bosch, Frikkie Welsh, Willem de Waal, Dewaldt Duvenage, Duane Vermeulen, Rynhard Elstadt, Pieter Louw, Anton van Zyl (captain), Adriaan Fondse, Brok Harris, Tiaan Liebenberg, Wicus Blaauw.

Replacements: Deon Fourie, JD Moller, JC Kritzinger, Martin Muller, Pieter Myburgh, Conrad Hoffmann, Lionel Cronjé, Morgan Newman.
