Samoan International commits to Wasps

London Wasps have confirmed that Samoan International prop Sakaria Taulafo, who originally joined the Club in December on an 18 month contract, has signed a new three year deal which keeps him in black and gold until the end of 2012/13 season.

Zak, as he known to his team mates, has made strong impact since his mid-season arrival, collecting an impressive total of 16 starts for the 1XV.

In a season where Wasps have struggled with injury concerns, particularly in the front row, the 27 year old has stepped up and embraced the challenges of the Guinness Premiership and European tournaments making a positive impact in the scrum and behind the scenes as a popular addition to the squad.

Zak joined Wasps after a strong season with the Tasman Makos in the Air New Zealand NPC – one which propelled him into the Samoan National team. After a series of strong displays with his new Club he will be a strong contender this summer as he returns to Samoa in the hope of picking up further game time in his national colours.

On making his long term commitment to Wasps, Director of Rugby Tony Hanks said, “Zak has made a significant impact since his arrival, playing both sides of the scrum and adding real quality to our front row roster.

“Zak has settled well in the Wasps environment and we believe he will continue to develop strongly over the next few seasons. His positive attitude and desire have allowed him to rack up an impressive appearance total in a short space of time and that is a reflection of his hard work and why he is a valuable asset to the squad.”

Zak added, “Moving to England and competing in the Premiership and Europe has been a very challenging move for me.

“Week in week out we play in the toughest tournaments and against some of the best players in the world and it is because of the great group of players, coaches and staff at London Wasps that I have been able to embrace that challenge and am very happy to be signing with Club for the long term.

“Wasps is a very special place and the people here have become like a second family to me.

“To play alongside some of the best props in the game like Phil Vickery and Tim Payne, and against players like Carl Hayman, has made this first season very enjoyable and I hope that I will continue to develop and play a strong part in the Club’s future.

“My family and I have been made very welcome and I look forward to continuing with Wasps for many more seasons.”
