Kankowski set to return early for Sharks

Sharks coach John Plumtree has revealed that loose-forward Ryan Kankowski could make a surprise comeback earlier than expected.

Kankowski was ruled out with a broken thumb but he could be back for the final two rounds of Super14 rugby.

The Sharks had ruled out any chance of Kankowski returning for the Sharks this season but his injury has healed quicker than expected.

Kankowski broke his thumb in the Sharks victory over the Reds on Easter Saturday.

The Springbok forward is expected to be tested with his catching and lifting later in the week and could make his return this weekend on the bench.

Kankowski was one of the few players who was in form at the start of the Super14 when the Sharks were struggling.

If he does not return for this week’s clash against the Bulls he will provide a significant boost for the Sharks against the Stormers and Force in the final two rounds.
