Sharks beat Blues in Durban

Whoever loses this match will almost certainly be knocked out of contention for the Super 14 play offs.


The situation is much more serious for the Sharks as they trail the Blues by four points on the Super 14 table. Even a draw will spell the end for the Sharks.

We are waiting for the kick off. The match is underway.


2.00: The Sharks start strongly but give away a penalty as John Smit goes off his feet. The Blues clear the ball.


6.00: The Blues suffer an early blow as Rene Ranger comes on for Luke McAlister. Or is that actually a blow ?


8.00: The Sharks run the ball at pace and Lambie passes to JP Pietersen but the ball goes forward.


10.00: The Sharks keep getting over the advantage line and letting themselves down with some silly mistakes.


14.00: The Blues have so far enjoyed 54 per cent possession.


15.00: Bismarck du Plessis gives away a penalty so the Blues kick for touch. They win the line out and then get the maul going and the Sharks give away another penalty.


16.00: Stephen Brett will kick for posts. He takes the kick and nails it.


19.00: JP Pietersen looks to be injured – he might have to come off with a hamstring.


20.00: The Sharks have a penalty and Ruan Pienaar takes the kick and nails it. JP Pietersen is driven off in the buggy.


22.00: The Sharks pop up with the ball after the breakdown and Terblanche darts off. He makes good ground but cant get the pass away and the movement is ended.


23.00; The Sharks get a warning for infringements at the breakdown.


25.00: The Blues work the ball through 5 phases. in the middle of the field and then Stephen Brett opens a hole in the Sharks backline and takes it – Peter Saili is with him in support and runs in the first try.


26.00:Stephen Brett converts the try form in front.  


29.00: The Sharks get a penalty in front of the posts but a fair way out. Pienaar takes the kick and nails it.


32.00: The Sharks win another penalty in a very similar position to the last one. Pienaar takes the kick and slices it.


36.00: Lambie puts in a big tackle which sets up the Sharks attack. They get the ball to within 5m  – Du Plessis goes over but he can’t get the ball down. No try.  


38.00: The Sharks win the scrum and they take it fast. They go through a couple of phases and another penalty is awarded.


39.00: Alberts keeps the ball in the scrum and Pienaar darts off and scores the Sharks first try.


Ruan Pienaar takes the conversion and misses.  It’s half time.


The half time score was Sharks 11 Blues 10


The second half is underway.


41.00 The Blues start well breaking the first line of the Sharks defence. After five phases the Blues start to make ground.


42.00: After 10 phases the Sharks turn it over kick it downfield.


44.00: Johann Muller throws a punch after the Sharks had been awarded a penalty so the penalty is reversed.


47.00: Lwazi Mvovo makes a break for the Sharks down the wing and it gets the Blues on the backfoot – the Sharks are all over the Blues but somehow the Blues keep them out and the ball goes into touch.
