Hurricanes beat Brumbies in Canberra

The Hurricanes have won the last three matches between the two teams. Last season’s 7-56 thumping in Wellington was the Hurricanes biggest win over the Brumbies and they will still be stinging from that loss.

We are waiting for the kick off.

 

0.01: Aaron Cruden kicks off and we are underway.

 

2.00: Rocky Elsom gets some attention for blood so the game is held up.

 

3.00: The Brumbies run the ball into the Hurricanes 25 and look dangerous but the Hurricanes turn the ball over and clear. We do however come back for a scrum penalty.

 

5.00: Brumbies win a line out and swing the ball out but there is a knock on. It’s a bit of a slow start for both teams.

 

8.00: Phibbs has a run for the Brumbies but his pass is intercepted so the Hurricanes start to attack but they give away a penalty.

 

9.00: Elsom takes the ball and runs it quickly. The Brumbies string together 8 phases and the Hurricanes give away a penalty and a yellow card for Nick Crosswell. Brumbies run the ball.

 

10.00: The Brumbies go through the phases and then Michael Paterson gives away a penalty so the Brumbies can start all over again. They go for the line out.

 

12.00: The Hurricanes defence well and win a scrum put in just 5m out from their line.

 

15.00: It’s pretty much all the Brumbies attacking in the Hurricanes half or 25. They string together 6 phases and Hoiles makes good ground he recyles and Ashley-Cooper comes close then Hoiles. They go again but the Canes give away another penalty.

 

16.00: Hoiles is down injured as Victor Vito’s tackle hit him in the face. Looks like he is KO’d. Possession is 80 per cent to the Brumbies and Territory is at 82 per cent for the Brumbies. No points though. We are waiting on Hoiles.  Finally we get going again and the Brumbies give away a penalty in the scrum.

 

18.00: Hurricanes take their time to get to the line out which eats up time while they have a man down. Canes win the line out but the Brumbies turn it over.

 

22.00: The Brumbies give away a penalty so the Hurricanes get the first real chance to score points. Aaron Cruden takes the kick and misses.

 

24.00: The Brumbies get another penalty for a high tackle. The touchie comes in but they didnt get a number. Replays show it was  Nick Crosswell.

 

25.00: Giteau kicks for posts. He misses.

 

27.00: Another Hurricanes player is sent off as Tyson Keats is shown a yellow card.

 

29.00: Brumbies possesion is at 76 per cent. They give away a penalty and Cruden takes the penalty kick and it shaves the post on the outside and misses.

 

31.00: The Hurricanes get a verbal warning for constant infringements.

 

32.00: The Brumbies drive for the line and het gets to the line. we go upstairs as there were bodies everywhere. No try.

 

33.00: Brumbies have a 5m scrum. They win the scrum and drive for the line. They recycle and Phibbs darts for the line and scores.

 

34.00: Giteau misses the conversion – also hits the posts.

 

38.00: The Hurricanes break and they get almost to the 25 but a forward pass goes in after the Brumbies stopped them and turned it over. Hurricanes get the put in.

 

40.00: As the half time siren sounds the Hurricanes get a penalty. Cruden takes the shot. He nails it.  That’s it – half time.
