Gopperth boots Newcastle to Gloucester win

Jimmy Gopperth kicked six penalties and a conversion to seal Newcastle Falcons 25-13 victory over Gloucester at Kingston Park on Wednesday.

 

Newcastle Falcons led from the start and the result lifts them seven points clear of the bottom of the Guinness Premiership table.

 

The hosts surged ahead early on as Tom Biggs scored the opening try before Jimmy Gopperth started his tally with a conversion and a penalty.

 

Nicky Robinson kept Gloucester in touch with two penalties in the first half but the Falcons took a 13-6 lead into the dressing rooms.

 

Gopperth dominated with the boot and kicked 20 points in the match to steer Newcastle home.

 

Tim Taylor gave Gloucester hope of a comeback in the second half, but the visitors were unable to catch their hosts and slumped to a 12-point defeat.
