Smith to miss Cheetahs clash against Waratahs

The Cheetahs have made two changes to the starting line-up of the side that lost 31-10 to the Reds in Bloemfontein last weekend for Saturday’s Super 14 match against the Waratahs in Sydney.

Fullback Hennie Daniller replaces Springbok Riaan Viljoen, and scrumhalf Tewis de Bruyn moves up from the bench in a swap with Sarel Pretorius.

Barend Pieterse, who was roped in at short notice when captain Juan Smith withdrew because of his father’s illness, retains his place on the flank.

Smith has remained behind in South Africa and might, depending on his father’s condition, join up with the team next week.

The Cheetahs side is:

Hennie Daniller, Danwel Demas, Robert Ebersohn, Meyer Bosman, Jongi Nokwe, Naas Olivier, Tewis de Bruyn, Ashley Johnson, Barend Pieterse, Hendro Scholtz, Waltie Vermeulen, Nico Breedt, WP Nel, Adriaan Strauss (capt.), Wian du Preez.

Replacements: Ryno Barnes, Coenie Oosthuizen, Davon Raubenheimer, Kabamba Floors, Sarel Pretorius, Corné Uys, Riaan Viljoen.
