Saracens expect Borthwick ‘back soon’

Saracens insists England captain Steve Borthwick should be back from injury soon despite fears he may not play again this season.

Borthwick suffered a knee injury that sidelined him for England’s Six Nations defeat against France in Paris last weekend and he will miss Saracens’ Premiership clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

It had also been suggested he could be ruled out of England’s five-match tour in June that includes Tests against Australia in Perth and Sydney.

But Saracens are hopeful he will back in action much sooner and a statement posted on their official website said: “Steve Borthwick sustained an injury to his left knee while playing for England against Scotland in the Six Nations.

“After meeting with the Saracens and England medical team, the second-row is currently working hard on his rehabilitation programme.

“His progress is being constantly monitored and he hopes to return to first team action with Saracens soon.”
