Melbourne Rebels sign Kingi for Super15

Reds halfback Richard Kingi has joined the Melbourne Rebels who will play in the Super 15 from 2011.

Kingi’s career at the Reds will be held back behind Wallaby Will Genia so he will struggle for game time which makes his move to the Melbourne Rebels all the more understandable.

The Kiwi-born halfback who is only 21 has backed himself to become the starting halfback at the Rebels with his two-year deal.

Kingi is now the third signing for the Rebels from the Reds after lock Adam Byrnes and prop Laurie Weeks joined them in the week.

Lachie Mitchell, 22, an Australian outside back playing for London Wasps, was also confirmed as a signing yesterday.

“We see Richard as having the qualities of the modern halfback with his running game and being able to play the pivot role as well,” Rebels coach Rod Macqueen told the Courier Mail.
