Blues beat Brumbies in Auckland

Probably the biggest impact on this match is the Brumbies loss of Stirling Mortlock who was ruled out yesterday and replaced with Tyrone Smith.

Mortlock’s form hasn’t been quite what it has been in years gone by and Matt Giteau is more than an able goal kicker so it’s probably not as big of a blow as it would normally be.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off.

8.00: Brumbies win another penalty but this time they go for the scrum. They drive over the line but held up. Another penalty and the Brumbies take it quickly and Salesi Maafu bashes over after Stephen Moore was denied on the first phase.

10.00: Giteau nails the conversion beautifully from almost the touch line.

13.00: The Blues look to hit back and press the Brumbies back into their 25. Blues pressure pays off and the Blues get a penalty. They go for posts which seems odd as the Brumbies went for the try twice.

20.00: The Ref plays advantage but after about a minute we go back for the penalty. It starts to rain.

21.00: The Blues go again with the forwards and then they swing the ball out to the backs – the Brumbies were expecting them to keep it in the forwards and Joe Rokocoko snipes and scores under the posts.

23.00: Stephen Brett nails the conversion.

25.00: The game is really hotting up now folks. Rene Ranger puts in a huge thumping tackle on Christian Lealiifano as the game is being played at some pace.

26.00: The Blues give away a penalty so Matt Giteau gets another shot at posts. He nails it from a fair distance out.

28.00: The Blues have the ball Rokocoko shrugs off a tackle on the near side, the Blues recycle and change sides , the Brumbies stop them and the Blues keep on the attack and change sides again.
