Bath beat Newcastle Falcons

Bath overcame a five-point deficit at half-time to beat Newcastle 17-13 at Kingston Park on Sunday.

Bath took the early lead through Matt Banahan who opened the try-scoring in the 11th minute, but Ryan Davis failed to add the extras.

The Falcons responded well before the break as Rob Vickerman negated the visitors’ try with one of his own before Jimmy Gopperth’s conversion and penalty gave the hosts a 10-5 lead at the break.

After the rest Bath looked a different side and wrestled the lead from their hosts. Nick Abendanon levelled matters with a try three minutes into the second half before David Wilson scored his side’s third of the match to make it 17-10 to Bath.

New Zealander Gopperth closed the gap to four points with his second penalty, but Bath held on for the win.
