Back delighted with Fourie’s 2-year Leeds deal

England Saxons forward Hendre Fourie has handed Leeds Carnegie a major boost ahead of their crucial clash with Saracens this Sunday at Headingley Carnegie by agreeing a new two year contract with the club.

Fourie scored the winning try in Sunday’s win over London Wasps at Headingley Carnegie that took Leeds level with Sale Sharks in the Guinness Premiership. Fourie has been the club’s outstanding player so far this season which earned him a call up the England Saxons squad last month.

The 30-year-old has been tipped for full England honours by his Head Coach Neil Back (pictured) and now he has committed himself to the Leeds Carnegie cause and their drive to remain in the top flight of English club rugby.

Commenting on his new deal Fourie said, “I am very happy here at Leeds Carnegie and I want to stay here regardless of what happens this season. I never thought that I would ever be able to play for an England representative side but the fact that I have played for the Saxons is because of Leeds.

“The club gave me the opportunity to play at the highest level when they signed me from Rotherham and now I feel I should reward that faith by agreeing a new contract.

“I love playing for Leeds. I have spoken to players who play at other clubs and they always say how much they admire the set up at Leeds. The club has big plans for the future and I want to be part of that. Eventually we can challenge the top teams in the country once we can gain experience of playing in the Guinness Premiership every season.

“We have got a great squad here and a tremendous coaching set up. I have never been in better shape thanks to our fitness coaches and in team mates like Calum Clark and Jacob Rowan I have two guys who are pushing me every day in training to be at my best just to keep my place in the squad,” added Fourie.

Head Coach Neil Back is delighted to have secured one of the club’s star performers and holds the back rower in the highest regard.

He added, “I think Hendre can play at the very highest level. He does things in games that most people probably do not appreciate but his team mates and the coaching staff certainly do.

“He has been outstanding for us this season and we are very happy that he has agreed a new two year deal to stay at Headingley Carnegie,” added Back.
