London Irish brush Harlequins aside

London Irish recorded a comfortable 29-14 win over Harlequins in their Guinness Premiership tie at Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

Irish opened the scoring through full-back Tom Homer who slotted a penalty in the fourth minute, but Quins hit back hard with a penalty try in the 18th minute to take a four-point lead.

However, the rest of the half belonged to the hosts who built a 12-point lead before the break. Homer’s second penalty reduced the gap to one point before flanker Steffon Armitage gave his side the lead with a converted try.

Two more penalties from Homer saw the teams enter the change rooms at 19-7 in the hosts’ favour.

Homer kept the score-board ticking after the interval and second-row forward Nick Kennedy crashed over the try-line to take the match out of Quins’ grasp at 29-7.

Quins scored in the last five minutes of the clash through centre George Lowe, but it only served to make the score-board look more respectable as the Exiles cruised to victory.
