Wasps sting Newcastle Falcons in LV= Cup

London Wasps claimed a 9-3 victory over Newcastle Falcons in their Anglo Welsh LV= Cup tie at Kingston Park on Sunday.

Newcastle were already out of the LV=Cup ahead of the clash but head coach Steve Bates insisted his fringe players will be motivated to impress in front of the home support.

The opening half was dominated by two committed defences as points were hard to come by and was restricted to a penalty a piece.

Rob Miller slotted the first points of the match with a penalty in the 14th minute for Newcastle, before the scores were level again on the stroke of half-time thanks to Dave Walder’s three-pointer.

After the break Wasps took the lead for the first time as Walder kicked his second penalty of the match in the 57th minute.

Neither side could break down the opposing defence, and the fixture remained try-less. Walder slotted another penalty in the 77th minute to secure the win for the visitors.
