Worcester Warriors secured a hard-fought 19-9 win over London Irish in the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup at Sixways Stadium on Saturday, with only one try being scored in the match.
Warriors made sure they started well as Chris Pennell scored the game’s only try in the sixth minute. Willie Walker made sure of his effort to slot the conversion and the home side secured an early 7-0 lead.
The Exiles got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when Ryan Lamb kicked a penalty. Walker made it a moot point on the half hour though as he kicked a penalty of his own to make it 10-3.
Lamb kept the score within touching distance when he slotted another penalty in the 32nd minute, before Walker kicked one of his own at the break to make it 13-6 after 40 minutes.
Warriors added to their score in the 46th minute with a penaly to extend the gap to 10 points and then another in the 52nd minute, but Peter Hewat kicked one of his own for Irish and left the score on 19-9 after 57 minutes, which is how the score remained.
