Scarlets put the boot into London Wasps

Two tries from London Wasps wing Tom Varndell were not enough to prevent the Scarlets beating London Wasps 13 -18 at Adams Park in the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup on Saturday.

The Scarlets shot ahead in the early stages of the match with Priestland kicking three penalties to put them nine points up by the 23rd minute.

The Londoners responded with a try through Tom Varndell, but Dave Walder failed to convert and they found themselves four points short of the visitors.

Prior to the half-time break, Priestland sent another penalty through the posts before Varndell claimed a second try to put the score on 10-12 at the break, while Walder again failed in his attempt to convert.

The second half kicked off and the Wasps looked to gain a foothold in the match but Priestland soon added his fifth penalty to increase the Scarlets’ tally to 15, although Dave Walder then found his kicking boots and slotted a penalty of his own through the posts to reduce the deficit to two.

But with a minute remaining, the Scarlets were awarded yet another penalty and Priestland continued his fine kicking form to stick away his sixth and seal the win for the Welsh side.

In all London Wasps scored two tries to nil but the Scarlets nailed six penalties through their kicker Rees Priestland which proved to be enough to seal victory for the visitors.
