Wigglesworth moves to ‘special’ Saracens

Saracens have announced that England international scrumhalf Richard Wigglesworth has signed with the club.

Capped five times by his country, the highly-rated 26-year-old will join Saracens at the start of the 2010/11 season.

Brendan Venter, Director of Rugby, said: “Richard is a top quality international in the prime of his career, and his eagerness to join Saracens is further evidence this club is going places.

“He and his wife Lindsay have made a big decision to move south, and we look forward to welcoming them both into the Saracens family.”

Wigglesworth said: “I have had nine great years at Sale, but I feel the time is right for a change”

” Everyone can see there is something special happening at Saracens, on and off the field, and I want to be part of it.”

Richard is a product of the Sale Sharks Academy and made his debut back in 2002. He has also been capped by England 5 times.

Commenting on his pending departure Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones said, ” Richard has given Sale Sharks excellent service and I would like to thank him for that.

“He is a very popular member of the squad and my lasting memory of him will be at Twickenham in 2006 when we lifted the Championship.”

“Its been difficult for us in that we have two top class scrum halves at the club, both wanting to start every game.”

Richard said, ” Sale Sharks is a very special club to me, it gave me my start in professional rugby nine years ago, and I am grateful for that.”

“I have made a lot of friends at the club and it will be sad to leave but will be giving Sale Sharks everything I have got until the end of the season.”
