Gloucester seal a place in Challenge Cup

Gloucester rugby sealed a place in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter finals when they beat Newport Gwent Dragons 23-32 in the Heineken Cup on Sunday.

 

Going in to the match Gloucester were forced to make a late change to their side against the Dragons at Rodney Parade as Lesley Vainikolo was not fit to play the game.

 

The England international winger was forced to withdraw from the starting line up due to a stomach complaint.

 

Another England winger however in Tom Voyce stepped in played and Charlie Sharples was bumped up to the bench.

Akapusi Qera scored a hat-trick as he ran in three tries for the Cherry and Whites as Gloucester ended their Heineken Cup campaign with a bonus point victory that sealed a place in the Challenge Cup.


By half time Newport were leading 16-10 after Jamie Alridge had kicked 11 points and Gomer-Davies had scored the first of their two tries.


Gloucester however came out for the second half with a head of steam and Qera scored his second and then third tries.


A penalty try was then awarded to Gloucester which earned them the bonus point for scoring four tries.


Gloucester finished as runners up in their pool.
