Dermody to stay an Exile until 2012

London Irish have received a boost ahead of their important Heineken Cup fixture this week with the announcement that Clarke Dermody has signed a new two year contract that will keep him with the club until June 2012.

The former All Black prop forward originally joined the Exiles in October 2007 from the Otago Highlanders and Southland.

Since then the 29-year-old has made 57 appearances in the Guinness Premiership and European competition where he has impressed players and supporters alike with his technique and dynamism around the pitch.

Commenting on the re-signing, London Irish Head Coach Toby Booth said, “Clarke has established himself as one of the best loose head props in the Guinness Premiership.”

“His ability as an outstanding front row exponent and as a leader is fundamental to the success of London Irish going forward.”

“We’re delighted that he has re-signed for another two seasons.”

Clarke Dermody said: “London Irish has lived up to my expectations since I arrived in October 2007.”

“I’ve enjoyed being part of a talented and ambitious squad that is committed to playing attractive rugby, and one that can and will win silverware soon. ”

“My wife and son have also appreciated the family culture that exists around the club and that has been an important factor in our decision to stay.”
