Saracens lock in Scotland international

Saracens have signed Scottish international Kelly Brown from Glasgow Warriors.

The 26-year-old 6ft 4in, 17st, back row forward will join the Guinness Premiership club at the start of the 2010/11 season.

Having first represented Scotland at U16 level, Brown made his full international debut in 2005 and has since gone on to win 30 caps for Scotland; he was part of his country’s 2007 World Cup squad.

Brown had been a mainstay of the Glasgow Warriors side.

Brendan Venter, Director of Rugby, said: “We are delighted Kelly has decided to join our club.”

“He is a proven international who, at the age of 26, is in his prime.”

“On the field, he is precisely the kind of big, dominant loose forward we have been seeking, and off the field, he is precisely the type of outstanding character who fits our culture.”

Warriors head coach Sean Lineen said of the 26-year-old: “Kelly is in a rich vein of form at the moment and will be a loss to us. We had hoped to retain his services but understand his reasons for moving south.

“Even though Kelly is moving on, I know he’ll give everything to help Glasgow win something this season.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with him because he is a consummate professional and I wish him all the very best for the future.”

Brown joined the Warriors from Border Reivers in 2007 and has gone onto make 55 appearances for the Warriors scoring five tries.

On his pending departure, Brown said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in Glasgow and will hopefully leave the club following their highest ever finish in the Magners League.

“I thank Sean Lineen and the coaching staff for their support over the past two seasons and look forward with excitement to the new challenges that lie ahead with Saracens.”
