Toulouse down Harlequins and qualify for Qtrs

Toulouse became the second team to qualify (after Biarritz) for the Heineken Cup quarter finals after they beat Harlequins 33-21 at Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse.

Maxime Medard’s late second half try ensured that Toulouse scored the bonus point for four tries and with it qualification for the next round.


Once Toulouse knew they had qualified they took their foot off the gas and allowed England winger Ugo Monye to run in a brace of late tries which made the result look more respectable for Harlequins.

Toulouse manager Guy Noves was delighted with his team’s performance.

“We really raised our level of play today (Sunday),” said the 55-year-old, who has been in charge at Toulouse since 1993, guiding them to seven national titles as well as their European crowns.

“We owe nothing to anybody and we deserve to have qualified.

“We are third in the championship, in the European Cup quarter-finals and despite outside criticism, I think that a lot of other sides would like to be in our position.”
