Falcons upset London Wasps in Premiership

Newcastle Falcons managed to leap-frog both Gloucester and Sale Sharks in the Guinness Premiership standings following their 12-6 victory over London Wasps at Adams Park on Sunday evening.

Wasps came out the gates flying and got themselves on the scoresheet within two minutes as Dave Walder sent his penalty kick clean through the posts, but the visitors responded three minutes later with their own penalty through Jimmy Gopperth.

However, from that moment on the sides struggled to string together any serious attacking threats, but just two minutes from the break and Falcons took the lead, with Gopperth slotting home another penalty kick.

Newcastle looked the sharper of the two in the second-half, and Gopperth extended their lead with his third penalty of the match.

And although the Wasps were able to reduce the deficit through Mark Van Gisbergen with 13 minutes left, Gopperth again replied with his boot, restoring their six-point lead, and ultimately helping his side ride out to victory.
