Newcastle appeal to fans for help clearing snow

Newcastle Falcons are appealing for further assistance from supporters on Sunday morning, to clear snow and remove covers from the Kingston Park playing surface.

Fans are asked to arrive at the stadium anytime from 8am, ideally with shovels and/or wheelbarrows, to ensure that the pitch is cleared in time for the 3pm Guinness Premiership kick-off against Leeds Carnegie.

Head groundsman Mark Hufton said: “The pitch is absolutely fine, perfectly soft and protected from the elements, so I see no problem in terms of the game going ahead.

“The only issue is getting enough bodies down on Sunday morning to remove the covers, and to clear snow from the remaining areas of the field which still have it lying.

“The first team, academy squad and backroom staff have all been in over Christmas and Boxing Day getting the bulk of it done, as well as many kind volunteers who have pitched in.

“Now we just need that final push on Sunday, and if we get plenty of bodies down then we can get the job done in good time for kick-off.”
