Bobo sparks Metro to Biarritz Top 14 victory

A Sireli Bobo double fired Racing Metro to a 23-20 win over Biarritz, the Parisian side’s seventh straight victory in the French Top 14 rugby union championship.

In a rearranged match, Jonathan Wisniewski converted both efforts by the Fijian flyer, as well as kicking two penalties and a drop-goal.

Takudzwa Ngwenya and Dmitri Yachvili scored tries for the home side, the scrum-half also kicking two penalties and a brace of conversions.

The victory saw the Pierre Berbizier-coached Racing team rise to fifth spot in the Top 14, while Biarritz picked up a bonus losing point and remain in 8th position.

“We’ve notched up seven consecutive victories but we all have experience that shows that it could come to a halt tomorrow,” said Racing captain Lionel Nallet.

“There are too many games remaining for us to talk about qualification” for the last-four play-offs, he said.

Biarritz captain Jerome Thion was left rueing his side’s inability to take their chances.

“In the first half we had three chances to score,” he said.

“We really missed out on our opportunities and in the end chased the score after making two stupid mistakes.

“We showed a lack of realism compared to Racing’s defence. And now we have to travel away and seek points, with a trip to Albi on Sunday.

“That will be the third game in 10 days and the bodies will be a little tired.”
