Wentzel to captain Leeds against former club

Leeds Carnegie captain Marco Wentzel says that he and his team mates are looking forward to the challenge to taking on Premiership Rugby champions Leicester Tigers this Saturday at Welford Road.

Wentzel is one of three former Tigers in the Leeds ranks with prop Alex Moreno and centre Seru Rabeni both having played in recent years for Leicester.

Of course, there is also a connection to Leicester in the Leeds coaching staff with former Leicester Tigers stalwarts Andy Key and Neil Back in charge at Headingley Carnegie now.

The second rower believes that Leeds with thrive on the Welford Road atmosphere, he commented, “It is a fantastic place to go and play rugby in.”

“I was down their recently for their game against South Africa and to see the ground now with the new stand up, it looks amazing.

“That will be good for our guys too, they will enjoy playing in front of a full Welford Road, it brings the best out of you.

“We have played well away from home this season so that will not be something that daunts us.”

“We perhaps should have got a win at Saracens and we did win at Wasps so we will go there with confidence,” added Wentzel.
