Bristol Rugby have signed New Zealander Sam Giddens on a six month contract from Hawkes Bay.
Sam arrived in the UK with his young family on Friday, having left Napier on Thursday morning.
A player who is comfortable in the centre, at fly half or fullback, Sam played an integral role in helping Hawkes Bay reach the semi-final of the Air New Zealand cup for three seasons in a row.
The twenty-five year old currently holds the New Zealand club record for the most points scored in a Premier rugby game, kicking forty-five points for former club Napier Old Boys Marist this year.
A competent kicker, Sam will provide an extra option at fly half as well as in the centre.
Commenting on the signing, Head Coach Paul Hull said,”With the long term injury of Ed Barnes and with Bristol having a small squad this season, we felt it necessary to bring in similar type of player who can cover a few positions.”
