Newcastle shock Bath at the Rec

Newcastle shock Bath at the Rec Newcastle Falcons ran riot in the second half to take an impressive 27-16 win over Bath at The Recreation Ground.

Fly-half Nicky Little gave the hosts the first points of the match with a penalty kick after a tight opening 24 minutes.

Three minutes later centre Matthew Carraro extended their lead when he went over for a five-pointer, but Little failed to slot the conversion.

The Falcons bounced back just before the break when full-back Charlie Amesbury dotted down for the visitors and a successful conversion from Jimmy Gopperth brought them within one point of the hosts.

Bath quickly put some distance between themselves and their opponents when scrum-half Michael Claassens darted over the line.

But Newcastle refused to give in and three minutes later James Hudson crashed over for a try, but the failed conversion saw Bath hold on to their slender lead.

The Falcons number nine Micky Young finally put the visitors ahead when he crossed over the line just before the hour mark.

A shocked Bath chipped away with a drop goal from Ryan Davis but Amesbury dotted down his second try of the afternoon to open up an 11 point lead.

Falcons saw out the final 10 minutes with no real problems to secure an important victory for the side.
