Confident Bulldogs lose Tyibilika in Currie Cup

Don’t write off the Border Bulldogs for Saturday’s First Division rugby match against unbeaten Pumas at Witbank, coach David Maidza warned.

The Bulldogs are on the up after AN unlucky defeat of 14-13 against the South Western District Eagles at Outeniqua Park recently and last weekend’s draw against the Griffons in East London.

“We were beaten by the bounce of the ball,” Maidza said.

“We have our confidence back and who knows. It could just be our turn to cause the biggest upset of the season.”

But beating the Pumas away from home without former Springbok flanker Solly Tyibilika is not going to be easy.

Tyibilika, who has had a marvellous season so far, is out for the season with a knee injury.

The Border team is:

Reinardt Gerber, Ghafoer Luckan, Dumisani Matyeshana, Chumani Booi, Zinikho Dumaphi, Andisa Gqobo, Morné Adams, Bernard le Roux, Sokhana Mkona, Gareth Krause (capt), Andries Kruger, Samora Fihlani, Buhle Mxunyelwa, Greg van Jaarsveld, Patrick Mulamba.

Replacements: Matthew Taljard, Lonwabo Mtimka, Dumisani Meslane, Bonga Mntunjani, Yongama Mkaza, Thembani Mkokeli, Lolo Waka.
