Lions’ Rose returns but Grobbelaar still out

Earl Rose is back in the Lions team – and captain Cobus Grobbelaar, who is still injured, will miss the Currie Cup match against the Leopards at Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg on Friday evening.

Grobbelaar’s shoulder is still troubling hium, and No 8 Willem Alberts will again captain the side, which sees a number of changes from the starting line-up that lost to the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last weekend. Rose replaces fullback Earl Lewis who is injured.

Flyhalf Herkie Kruger has a slight neck problem and he is replaced by Ruan Boshoff.

At centre, Doppies la Grange returns in the place of Pieter.

Engelbrecht Because the Lions are looking to be more expansive this weekend, they have moved flank Franco van der Merwe to lock in place of Johan Snyman, said coach Hans Coetzee at the team announcement.

Flank Todd Clever comes into the starting line-up in place of Van der Merwe.

There are also two changes in the front row.

Prop JC van der Merwe gets a welcome break after having played all the matches so far, and fellow prop Gert Muller also gets a break, starting off the bench.

Kevin Buys and Wayne Swart are this weekend’s props.

Replacements: Derek Harwood, Gert Muller, Johan Snyman, Johan van Deventer, Chris Jonck, Walter Venter, Pieter Engelbrecht.
