The Boland Kavaliers scrumhalf Danie van der Merwe’s who injured his shoulder during Boland’s 50-16 defeat against the Leopards last Friday in Potchefstroom is a doubtful starter for Friday’s Currie Cup rugby match against the Sharks at Wellington.
If Van der Merwe fails his fitness test, Coach Deon Davids is in trouble. First-choice scrumhalf Marnus Hugo is sidelined with an knee injury, while second-choice Neil Papier is under suspension till January 1, 2010.
If Van der Merwe is not fit for selection, Davids will have to opt for inexperienced Denzil Willemse.
And that could spell danger against a Sharks outfit who are on the warpath after their unexpected defeat against Western Province in Durban last weekend.
