Province name Grant at 10 for Sharks

Western Province have named Peter Grant at flyhalf for Saturday’s Currie Cup rugby match against the Sharks in Durban, but he was nowhere to be seen at training in Bellville, on Wednesday morning.

Over the past fortnight it has been touch and go for Grant, who is battling with back and foot injuries.

Fullback Joe Pietersen ran the lines from the flyhalf berth at training instead. Province coach Alistair Coetzee, said after the session Grant was being rested as a precautionary measure.

In the pack the injured Adriaan Fondse, whose season has come to a premature end after suffering a knee injury last weekend, will be replaced by Chris Jack who has been moved off the bench.

The New Zealand lock’s place on the bench will be taken by De Kock Steenkamp.

Bolla Conradie has been promoted to the match-day 22-player squad because of the injury to back-up scrumhalf Conrad Hoffmann.

Saturday’s clash will be a top-of-the table affair as the log-leaders Sharks head the log by three points, with Province in second position.
