Leeds suffer Hinton season opener blow

Leeds Carnegie full back Leigh Hinton has been ruled out of the start of the Guinness Premiership season after suffering a shoulder injury in his side’s opening pre-season game on Tuesday in France.

Hinton had scored his side’s opening try against Aurillac but left the field after suffering a blow to his shoulder.

Subsequent scans have revealed damage to his AC joint that could rule him out of action for two months.

Commenting from France, Head Coach Neil Back said, “We are disappointed for Leigh.

At this stage it would appear that he does not need an operation but the injury will be assessed by a specialist when we return to Leeds at the weekend.

“Hopefully it will recover with a period of rehabilitation but in the meantime we will use Leigh’s expertise to help the coaching and management team in our preparations for the new season,” added Back.

Leeds Carnegie beat Aurillac 19-14 in their first pre-season game on Tuesday and they will now take on Montauban on Friday evening, kick off 6pm local time, in their final game in the Issoire tournament.

Leeds Carnegie kick off their Guinness Premiership season against Newcastle Falcons at Headingley Carnegie on Sunday 6th September, kick off 3pm.
