Cheetahs get new Currie Cup captain

The Free State Cheetahs will be without captain Hendro Scholtz for their Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls in Bloemfontein on Friday night.

Springbok hooker Adriaan Strauss will lead the team, and young Johan Wessels returns to the side as No 6 flank in place of Scholtz, who has an elbow injury.

Wessels missed last weekend’s match against the Sharks because of a leg injury.

At loosehead, Coenie Oosthuizen starts in place of Springbok Wian du Preez while at tighthead WP Nel remains the choice following some good performances after the rib injury to Cobus Calldo.

Former Bulls scrumhalf JP Joubert starts ahead of Tertius Carse, who is on the bench.

The Cheetahs team is:

Hennie Daniller, Danwel Demas, Corne Uys, Robert Ebersohn, Jongi Nokwe, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, JP Joubert, Francois Uys, Frans Viljoen, Johan Wessels, David de Villiers, Nico Breedt, WP Nel, Adriaan Strauss (capt.), Coenie Oosthuizen.

Replacements: Richardt Strauss, Jean Botha, Izak van der Westhuizen, Kabamba Floors, Tertius Carse, Louis Strydom, JW Jonker.
