Brumbies lose in the 80th minute

Westpac Stadium, Wellington, 19.35 (06.35 GMT)

The Hurricanes vs the Brumbies are first up this weekend and the match takes places in Wellington.

A quick glance at the standings will tell you that these two teams are dead-even this year – both have won twice and lost once. And a look at the statistics down the years further confirm that there is little to choose between the two sides.

Huxley missed an early penalty but the Brumbies used the numbers while Ma’a Nonu is in the bin and scored a try. Jeremy Paul as also deemed to have given a forward pass to Mark Gerrard and the Brumbies almost scored a second try.

The Brumbies are looking a little better tonight that they have in the past few weeks but that could be due to the numbers advantage.

After Nonu came back on the Hurricanes did look better but the Brumbies appeared to be the better side although the half time match stats show similar figures.

In the second half the teams are tussling each other, relying on penalties. In the 55th and the 58th minute Gopperth had shots at goal but both times the ball went to the right of the posts.

The Hurricanes forwards have had a good spell and nearly scored the Hurricanes first try of the night with a driving maul but Tialata was judged to have dropped the ball as he crossed the line.

In the 67th minute the Brumbies were awarded a penalty and  Julian Huxley slotted the kick taking the Brumbies score to 10.

Tialata nearly made ammends for his early fumble as he pinned his ears back and headed for the line. The Brumbies defence however held strong as it has done all night and the Hurricanes were pushed into touch once again.

With three minutes to go the Hurricanes piled on the pressure. Wave after wave of attack saw the Hurricanes edge closer and closer to the Brumbies line and eventually Thomas Waldrom managed to dive over and score the try in the corner seconds after the hooter sounded.

Gopperth missed the conversion.

After full time the score is Hurricanes 11 Brumbies 10
