Province name Aplon in team to face Blue Bulls

The elusive runner Gio Aplon, has been called up to the Western Province Currie Cup rugby team to face the Blue Bulls at Loftus on Saturday.

Aplon is presently a member of the Springbok Sevens squad, but the injury to Province fullback Joe Pietersen forced Province to call on his services.

Apart from the fullback change, Province coach Allister Coetzee, has named Dewaldt Duvenage at scrumhalf to replace Ricky Januarie who has been taken up in Peter de Villiers’ Springbok squad.

Province leftwing Frikkie Welsh, a former Blue Bulls player, said he’s looking forward to returning to Loftus where he hopes to put in an improved performance.

After last week’s opening round of Currie Cup  fixtures, both the Blue Bulls and Province are unbeaten. Coetzee said the Blue Bulls will offer formidable opposition because their team had excellent systems and structures in place.
