Italy’s squad is beginning to take the strain following the two bruising opening weeks of Six Nations action in which they spent much of their time defending.
The back row has been hit particularly hard, with Alessandro Zanni missing training on Wednesday, and Mauro Bergamasco still unable to participate in Tuesday’s practice match despite recovering from the thigh injury that ruled him out of the England match.
Flanker/number eight Josh Sole was definitely ruled out of the Scotland match on Wednesday with an elbow injury as well.
Centre Gonzalo Canale and fly-half Roland De Marigny are the injury concerns in the backs, and were two others who missed Wednesday’s training sessions.
