Haag rejoins Bath as forwards coach

RFU Academy and England U20’s Assistant Coach, Martin Haag is re-joining Bath Rugby as forwards coach to the senior team.

Haag who played 295 times for Bath has been with the RFU since June 2008 and returns to the UK this week after helping the England U20 team reach their second consecutive final in the IRB Junior World Championships last weekend.

Haag, who has had two spells coaching at the Bath Academy said “I’ve had a really enjoyable year with the Rugby Football Union who have helped me enormously with my development as a coach and I would like to thank in particular Stuart Lancaster, Head of Elite Player Development, England U20’s Head Coach Mark Mapletoft and the Head of Elite Coach Development at the RFU, Kevin Bowring for all the help and support they have given me in the last 12 months.

The opportunity to re-join Bath Rugby in a senior coaching capacity was however one I could not turn down and I’m very excited about working with Head Coach Steve Meehan, the rest of the coaching staff and the squad.”

“Martin Haag is well known to the Bath players and supporters,” said Steve Meehan. “He did very well when with Bristol and has just enjoyed a successful period with the England U20’s.

“As a former Bath player I’m sure he will bring a lot of the club ethos with him and that will benefit all of us.”

Rob Andrew, Elite Rugby Director of the RFU said “Martin has made a significant contribution to the Elite Rugby Department, the England U20 squad and the Academy system and he has continued to develop his coaching skills with us.

“Martin is one of many coaches, which include Jim Mallinder and Dorian West who have joined the RFU and benefitted from the Coaching development structure put in place by Kevin Bowring and I wish Martin every success at Bath next season.”
