Bath Rugby get new CEO from September

Bath Rugby have announced the appointment of Nick Blofeld as their new CEO and he will be joining the club on the 1st September.

His arrival comes at a key stage of their planned re-development of The Rec and as progress is made for new training facilities.

Blofeld joins from Epsom Downs Racecourse where he is MD and part of the team that transformed the racecourse over the last 3 years with a new Grandstand, entrance pavilion and 120 bedroom hotel. With a background in branding, sports marketing and the leisure sector he is well suited to the challenges facing Bath Rugby.

Bob Calleja will be staying at the club in the role of COO and will now have more time to focus on the complex issue of how to develop The Rec into a site suitable for a leading Premiership club in the 21st century.

Calleja commented, “We need some fresh thinking and a bigger management team to be able to progress with our re-development plans at the same time as ensuring that Steve Meehan and the team get all the support they need to keep delivering on the pitch.

“We have been chasing Nick for over six months and he has all the qualities to cope with the challenges that lie ahead. I’ll give Nick my full support and don’t intend to hang up my boots until we have a long term, viable plan for the new stadium that meets the expectations of our long suffering fans.”

Andrew Brownsword, Chairman and owner of Bath Rugby added; “Nick is a natural successor as CEO and I’m confident will be able to help us to enhance Bath Rugby’s position at the top of professional rugby.

“He has a wealth of relevant commercial experience in marketing, sponsorship and re-development and we are delighted he has agreed to join us for the beginning of the season.”
