The torrential rain that swamped Brisbane on Wednesday caused some nervous moments at Ballymore as the adjacent creek broke its banks.
The famous Ballymore creek bank – scene of many pre- and post-match parties – went under and so did some of the outbuildings, but there was no major structural damage.
The main damage was to perimeter fences, some electrical and maintenance equipment and some merchandise as the water entered hospitality and storage areas nearest Enoggera creek.
“Thankfully the rain eased off before last night’s high tide. Otherwise we might have faced the prospect of the main field and change rooms under the grandstand being inundated,” said Stadium Manager Scott Wallis.
“But it didn’t come to that and, all in all, a lot of other parts of Brisbane were much worse off than us.”
