Kaplan to referee Super 14 final

The three referees for the semifinals and final of the Super 14 have been announced. Jonathan Kaplan of South Africa, the most experienced Test referee in the world, will blow the whistle in the final on May 30, reported Sanzar in a media release.

Bryce Lawrence of New Zealand and Stuart Dickinson of Australia will be in charge of the two semifinals the previous weekend.

If a semifinal is hosted in South Africa, Lawrence will in all likelihood be asked to officiate in that game.

André Watson, manager of referees at the South African Rugby Union (SARU), said: “These appointments were done on merit and irrespective of the nationality of the referee or the teams involved in the play-offs.

“A decision on the assistant referees will be taken as soon as the permutations are known and will be announced on Monday.”
