McCaw wants South Africa in Super Rugby

All Blacks and Crusaders captain Richie McCaw says that South Africa must remain in Super 14 if it is to stay strong and is optimistic that SANZAR will be able to reach an agreement

The New Zealand, Australian and South African Rugby Unions are meeting in Dublin this week to continue discussions about the future of Super Rugby.

McCaw says while there needs to be some compromise he was sure that a solution to their differences if the Super 15 is to go ahead.

He told Radio Sport that all of the South African players he has spoken to want to continue playing in a southern hemisphere competition.

McCaw says they love playing in the Super 14 as it is a tough, but rewarding competition which he believes is the best in the world.

He says South Africa must be involved if it is to stay that way.

Richie McCaw says obviously there are some challenges to overcome, including South Africa’s desire to maintain the strength of the Currie Cup.

He says that is also important to the players so there may need to be a bit of give and take from both sides.
