Western Province lose Burch for Currie Cup

Powerful No 8 Jody Burch, who was impressive during the Vodacom Cup season, will not turn out for Province in the Currie Cup season.

“I don’t feature in Province’s plans for the Currie Cup season. If I want to continue my career I have to move on,” the burly player said. Burch weighs 114 kg and is 1.88 metres tall.

“It’s a toss-up up between the Boland Kavaliers and the South Western District Eagles,” he said today.

“I must be honest. Right now I would prefer to play in the Currie Cup .

“Boland will give me that opportunity, but I also realise that the Eagles are probably going to play there next season.

“Therefore it is no easy decision to make.

“But I will take my time over the next two days. I am rethinking every aspect of a move outside Cape Town,” Burch said.

Burch has played three seasons for the University of Cambridge.

He is almost unstopable around the fringes ans could prove a major coup for Boland or SWD.

Burch plans to make a final decison before the end of the week.
